Anthem of the Seas Day-8 (2024)
May 5th, 2024 (Day 8)
Since our tour started at 8 a.m., we had to get up early this morning to make it to our meet-up location on time. We woke up at 6:30 a.m. make sure we had time to eat.
We got a quick bite to eat at the Windjammer and then went back to our cabin to get our "tourist" bag. The bag is a simple crossover bag that has a few pouches to carry some items. Some of the essentials are Passports, wallets, cash, phone battery packs, and charging cables. We then went to the Cafe promenade to get some Poweraid and bottled water for the execution. As soon as we collected the drinks we made our way to the Royal Theater for our meetup.
We arrived to a very busy theater with several paddles placed all over the theater that indicated tour groups. Once we got the the check-in table we got our group number (20) and then found a few seats within the group. After about 15-20 minutes of waiting, we were guided out to our tour bus after promptly leaving the ship.
The tour that we took was "Madeira in Three Stops"
Camara De Labos
Eira do Serra
Monte Palace
We arrived back from the tour at about 2:30 p.m. and were dropped off at the cruise port. We made our way back to the ship and went through security, which involved scanning sea pass cards and going through metal detectors. As usual, the Anker 40,000mAh battery pack needed additional scrutiny since it was in the bag with other items.
We strolled around the ship, people-watching, getting some soft-serve ice cream, and enjoying the sun on deck for about an hour. Then, we went back to our cabin so Esther could get a quick nap. Once 5 p.m. arrived, I got Esther up, and we changed into some nicer clothes for our dinner at Chops Restaurant.
Chops is a specialty dining option that does cost extra, but it does serve more high-quality food options. Esther and I both ordered a filet of steak as well as asparagus and creamed spinach. The meal was good, but again, it's one of those bucket list items that, once we've done it, I doubt we would do again.
After dinner, we spent about an hour in the hot tub in the solarium on deck 14. The solarium was almost empty and very peaceful. Once we relaxed enough in the tub, we made our way back to our cabin to shower and then retire for the night. We did come back to a nice towel animal.
